Cinema World on Display

The association’s undertakings includes screenings and debates at the 2019 national cultural and artistic relaunch, dubbed RECAN.

The Yaounde national museum hosted the fourth edition of this event for 25 days, and the Cinematographic and Audio-visual Arts gallery was opened on September 14th, as a day devoted to cinema. Remi Atangana, one of the gallery’s coordinators, set the pace on September 13 as he introduced the activities in a bid to discover the national cinema heritage. He mentioned celebrating commander Gerard Essomba, awarded best actor in the Congolese film “Piece of identity”, and the film “Muna Muto”, awarded gold standard of Yennanga. He also let the population know that their most deserving works will be exhibited and an open platform for formal discussions will be organised.

Platform which, indeed, was devoted to a conference-debate offered to the public for opinion expression. It ended in a series of diverse points raised and concluded between filmmakers. To lighten the mood, films like “Angles”, “My Silences” and “Rebel Pilgrim” were aired. The RECAN which ran from September 11 through September 29 was loaded with activities under different galleries reserved for each day, among which were musical art, traditional games and fashion and design. This cultural event which extends through the country’s 10 regions, has in its process the creation of artistic federations which can contribute to the development of Cameroonian artists.
